ElephantDrive is a online storage service that mainly has focus on offering paid storage services but also offers a simple free solution.
Features You only get 1 GB storage with the free plan but can get upto 2 terabyte with the paid plans. With the free plan there is also a file size limit of 90 MB that you won’t haev to worry about if you order one of the other plans. Finally you also have a limit of 1 GB of downloads per month with the free plan.
Besides being able to upload files via your browser ou can also install their software client that lets you view your storage account together with the rest of your computer drives. From the software client you acn also share your files although in a limited way as you will have to type the e-mail adress for anyone that you want to share your files with.
If you are looking for more high-end features ElephantDrive offers that as well as you can get additional encryption options, open file support, maintain older version of files and much more.
Interface The browser interface is pretty straightforward and is easy to getting used to. Maybe it could be easier to see how to use certain features but other than that there is nothing to complain about. The software client is even better and a thing like being asked what you want to backup the first time you install the client is a really nice thing. To make things even easier you can also download an applicication that lets you map your account like a regular network drive so it won’t get much more user friendly than that.
Speed The upload and download speed couldn’t be much better.
Support YourWebStorage hasn’t been in contact with support yet.
Good things: • Excellent software client • A lot of storage on paid subscriptions • High-end backup features on paid subscriptions
Bad things: • Small amount of storage on free plan • File size limit on free plan
I’ve been using ElephantDrive ever since they were in Beta. There were some glitches here and there on their Beta application, but the new version of their ElephantDesktop (version 3.0.5, I believe) works so much better and faster.
I have tried other backup/online storage solutions before, and so far I think ElephantDrive gives me the closest solution for what I need. I like the fact that I have the ultimate control over my data. Unlike other software, ElephantDrive does not do auto synchronization to my harddrive, so I don’t have to worry about loosing the data that I put in the ElephantDrive storage when I delete them from my local drive. Which for me is a great thing because one: I can free up my local drive and have an archive of my data in ElephantDrive, and two: When I accidentally delete my file(s) without realizing it, I can always retrieve them from ElephantDrive again (afterall, that is what a backup solution for isn’t it?)
They also give me the best price for the money. Other company claims to give unlimited storage, but limit your bandwith usage per month or simply not give enough storage for you. The unlimited storage in ElephantDrive is really unlimited. I have over 200 gigs with them already.
A new feature they have on the latest desktop client is the bandwith throttling. I love this feature! It allows me to specify how much bandwith I want the application to use all the way to the exact Kbps. This way I can make sure that I can do other thing while it is backing up my data in the background.
Two things I wish they have (that their support team says is currently their development horizon) is the ability to run the application as a service and publishing feature.
Overall I have to say I’m happy with ElephantDrive service and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
